A family affair since 1985

Our story.

Our location has always taken a leaf out of nature’s book by preaching and practicing a slower, simpler, and more genuine way of life. The SILENA, in the past, was a mountain farm run by our grandparents. The ‘Moarhof’ was taken over by our parents in 1985, putting a lot of passion and dedication into converting it into a small guesthouse. Our family’s connection to this special piece of land informed their decision to maintain the building’s old core and grounds while transforming the rest into something brand new. Their children – that’s us, by the way, Simon and Magdalena – came along in 2017 with a bold idea: turn the traditional guesthouse into the SILENA.
Creating this tranquil oasis wasn’t a walk in the park – it was the result of many a sleepless night, vast reserves of courage, our parents’ unwavering faith and, yes, even moments of doubt. Yet we felt a need for change if we truly wanted to experience what is near and dear to our hearts. The last massive renovation came about in 2022 and, today, the SILENA is a location where people can find that certain je ne sais quoi they were looking for, a haven of peace of quiet, and where they connect to what truly matters. Among all the changes, one thing has remained the same – the genuine hospitality which has always been a cornerstone of our family values and practices.

Location

Forests and mountains.

Nature, in Valles, truly is queen, and the SILENA, right on the edge of the valley’s forest, taps directly into its sap.
Ground yourself as you walk, barefoot, across the cool, dewy, summer grass, connecting with the soil beneath your soles. Come winter, click into your boots – the slopes are on our doorstep, and you can ski directly onto them without any of the chaos found in the more congested valleys.

Studios & Suites

Three styles –
rooms for everyone.

Our 48 rooms are grouped into three styles. Light timber and a soothing scent of mountain pine – a homage to lightness. Darker timber and delicate dragonfly patterns – a recipe for safety. Futons and outdoor, sunken bathtubs – the ideal context for relaxation.

Ambience

Infinite expanses and grounded presence.

There’s just something different about the SILENA – it’s quieter and more ‘grounded’. Something you rarely, if at all, find in other South Tyrolean hotels. Magdalena has a deep respect and love for Asia and its culture, pursuing its clear lines, lightness, and mindfulness, whereas Simon’s strong connection with his region’s nature, traditions, and rhythm are part and parcel of who he is.

Activities

Outdoor and indoor activities.

Roam in the quiet forests or explore the slopes on our doorstep on your skis or sleigh; walk barefoot on the dewy grass first thing in the morning or simply take things slower and find your inner peace. Paint. Create origami. Read a good book. Practice yoga against the backdrop of the mountains. Take a deep breath and live in the moment – be the moment.

ADULTS ONLY 14+

Planned relaxation.

When you’ve planned a getaway to find peace and quiet, to enjoy introspective moments, you don’t want your plans dashed by life. Some places, like the SILENA, have been designed to create a soothing bubble of relaxation and introspection. Where you can be you and fully engage with your plans and desires. A retreat for guests 14 and older who’re looking to unwind in peace
and quiet.

Cuisine

The secret recipe to inner peace?
Soulful food.

Light South Tyrolean recipes rooted in the quintessence of Italian cuisine, all brought together with a touch of eastern lightness.
A breakfast boasting a view of the mountains, and teas which warm the body and soul. Wines which help you unwind and unlock your emotions, and evenings which while away into the wee hours of the morning as you get lost in pleasant and soul-baring conversations.

Wellness & Spa

Our garden and rooftop.

A SPA on our rooftop and in our garden, an onsen and outdoor pool, steam sauna and Finnish sauna – plenty of space for rest, relaxation, and recovery.

The idea behind SILENA

SILENA is different on purpose.
You won’t find anyone like us on the South Tyrolean hotel landscape. We like looking to the horizon and being inspired by the rarified light, by peace and quiet. Our ethereal pursuits are balanced by being deeply rooted in our region and in nature which, here, still takes centre stage. Striking that perfect balance is at the core of what we do and pursue day in, day out. A tenet which is embodied in SILENA’s architecture. Together with the -NOA- architects, we wanted to create a unique, genuine project which was anything but traditional Alpine architecture. Be ready to be surprised by the generous spaces which go beyond the tried and tested in the Alps. Come and visit us – your alpine retreat is always ready to welcome you.

Facilities & Info

ROOMS

Every room at the SILENA features all amenities and a balcony. Some even have a private sauna or bathtub! There’s something for everyone and no two rooms are the same – just as no two of our guests are the same.

CULTURE & LITERTURE

We care deeply about not being just another ‘SPA’ hotel. That's why we believe that wellbeing moves through other areas, too – and that’s why we have our own library and various creative rooms where you can let your ideas run wild. We even have two spa areas: one on the ground floor and one on the roof.

POOL & SPA

You can enjoy various saunas and pools at the SILENA. Our ground floor SPA

features a heated outdoor pool which can be accessed from inside the hotel; out rooftop SPA features an ONSEN pool, whose water is heated to 40°C. We have the following saunas:
-an organic herbal sauna (45-60°C)
-a rooftop Finnish sauna (80-100°C)
-a steam bath
We also organise Aufguss sessions every day –pouring cold water over the sauna’s hot stones – and offer a wide range of massages in our treatment rooms.

DRINK & FOOD

Join us for a hearty breakfast buffet with à la carte choices. Throughout the rest of the day, head to the Bistro and pick from a limited but flavourful menu or join us for dinner in the evenings. We recommend you book a half board holiday. Cake, while not included in the booking price, can be requested in the afternoons. On Thursdays, Simon makes Kaiserscharrn. That is on the house.

CAR PARK

You can park for free near the hotel or pay €15 a night for the underground car park (which is already included in some room categories.)

ACTIVITIES, CULTURE, AND SPORTS

We organise various courses and activities on a daily basis. Participation is usually free for our guests.

Of course, you can also use our gym, equipped with dumbbells (4–20 kg, 22 kg, 24 kg), treadmill, cross trainer, leg press, leg extension machine, recumbent bike, multipower machine, spinning bike, rowing machine, and of course a gym ball, bench, etc.

Location & surroundings

You can find us in Valles, a village of 600 souls in the Val di Valles. It’s also called the ‘Alpine village’ - an unspoilt, genuine, and charming location. We’re surrounded by meadows, mountains and farm animals, whose favourite pastime is grazing. The lifts to the Rio Pusteria ski and hiking area are just 3 minutes away on foot.

Our family

The SILENA has always been a family-run establishment. The former Moarhof farm was developed by Josef and Ida Mair. Their two children, Magdalena and Simon, took over the hotel in 2017 and implemented a new design, a new concept, and gave it a new name.

Reinventing sustainability

For us, sustainability is a process – it’s a daily commitment which leads to the overarching goal of being responsible for our environment, our region and for you as our mindful guest. We’re aiming to make the process transparent and verifiable by working towards certifications from two recognised sustainability systems:

GreenSign – holistically tested

GreenSign is a leading sustainability seal for hotels in German-speaking countries. It assesses over 100 criteria – from environmental and resource protection, through quality and regional aspects, to social commitment. The certification is comprehensive, transparent and focuses on the future – just like our standards.

South Tyrol Sustainability Label – regionally rooted, internationally recognised
The South Tyrol Sustainability Label was developed by IDM South Tyrol. It’s based on the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), a criterion recognised around the world. Developed for businesses in South Tyrol that promise and visibly show their commitment to sustainability.

Our goal is to receive the labels but, more importantly, to show what we do. No tricks or gimmicks – just the truth. And these certifications are an important step in the process. They help us clearly reflect who we are, and where we want to go.
